Biodegradable Bottles Explained

Our sustainable supplements:
Head East supplement bottles are made from PLA. PLA is a biodegradable and compostable material made from sugar cane. Here we explain its circular economy and why it is a valued natural packaging material.
What does biodegradable mean?
Biodegradable plastic will completely breakdown into natural elements when in the right conditions. This will only take 6 months for our biodegradable bottles.
What material is used to make our biodegradable bottle?
Our bottles are made from sugar cane sourced from Bon Sucro certified farms which carry out responsible farming practices to support their workers and the environment.
Only the surplus sugar cane is used for bioplastic, meaning there is no negative effect on the food supply chain.
What is the carbon footprint of a biodegradable bottle?
The carbon footprint of our biodegradable and compostable plastic bottles is approximately 75% lower than the carbon footprint of conventional plastics and 90% lower than the carbon footprint of glass containers.
All plastics must be melted in order to be shaped into the final product. The more heat that must be applied to the material in this process, the more CO2 it emits into the atmosphere.
Our sugar cane bottles have a lower melting point than conventional plastic, meaning less heat is needed and as a result has a lower carbon footprint. Furthermore, as the sugar cane plant grows it helps to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere.

Bioplastic and the Circular Economy
A circular economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose) whereby we extract the maximum value from products while in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life.
Plant-based materials play an integral part in transitioning to a circular economy in that they regenerate CO2 and use renewable raw materials to make more sustainable everyday products.
Bioplastics are the key component to bringing the plastics industry out of a wasteful linear economy and into the circular economy.
